The system has a sample rate of 5 SPS for each channel. Unfortunately, I do not have a precison time base, but rely on the computer's clock with periodic updates. Details on the seismometer construction can be found here on the home page listed above.

Analysis by WinQuake. GROUND TYPE: Gravels over Chalk COMMENTS: We are getting good teleseismic records. I am trying to raise the profile of seismology in UK schools as it is taught as a theoretical subject at Key Stage 4 (14-16 age range) and it is clearly an excellent example of 'real science'. Am also working on a shorter period horizontal sensor.

Time resolutions with cal marks is no better than +/- 0.2 seconds because calibration marks are manually inserted. Data files are available to anyone who wants a copy just email me with a request. I would like to be able to contact another station to compare arrival times in near real time. This Station is extremely noisy most of the time due to human artifacts and wind. Emails from other Amateurs are welcome.

After extended period filtering, the bandwidth is .04 Hz to 2.5 Hz. Sensors are located on basement floor. Timing is photo-electrically picked off the seconds hand of a WWVB-controlled wall clock. Sensors are damped using resistive shunts. The ground type absorbs high frequencies in the horizontal directions. The response to vertical motion is good.

Comments: Our seismic devices are contained inside a clear Acrylic box with their covers removed so students can see what seismometers look like. They are setting on a cement floor in the school book room. Gilroy is located about midway between the San Andres and Hayward/Calaveras Faults… and we are located mid way between main line North/South railroad tracks and US Highway 101 which explains most of our noise.
